CUTS Centre for Competition, Investment and Economic Regulation (C-CIER) is implementing , a two-year project known as 7up3. The project takes place in Botswana, Ethiopia, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia and Uganda and aims to develop the capacity of national stakeholders including policy makers, regulators, CSOs, academics and the media to understand the importance of a properly developed and implemented competition regime, and to enable them to respond appropriately. The project is supported by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD), Norway and the Department for International Development (DFID), UK.
EPAs Project 'Capacity Building of Eastern and Southern Civil Society during the Economic Partnership Agreement Negotiations'
Through awareness-raising and consultative activities on the potential impact of an EPA, the project aims to build the capacity of a wide range of local civil society organisations to advocate their concerns to African policy-makers. The EPAs project is being managed and implemented by CUTS LRC and supported by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and GTZ. The project is running from October 2005 to December 2007.
TDP 'Linkages between Trade, Development and Poverty reduction'
International trade is widely perceived as a means to reduce poverty, not an end in itself. Linkages between trade and economic growth, and economic growth and poverty reduction are well established in the economic literature. Yet, despite the existence of theoretical literature explaining these linkages, insufficient empirical evidence exists to prove the robustness of this linkage.
Through background research, a wide range of national and international dialogues and output based advocacy, the TDP project aims to promote more effective linkages between trade, and efforts aimed at development and poverty reduction in 13 developing countries in Asia and Africa, and two European countries (the UK and Netherlands). This is a four year project, which started in March 2005.
TDP is supported by the UK Department for International Development (DfID) and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
IBSA 'South-South Trade & Investment Cooperation - Exploring IBSA Initiative'
The IBSA project took place in Brazil, South Africa and India and aimed to explore and analyse trade and economic relations between the aforementioned countries. The project was implemented by CUTS Centre for International Trade, Economics and the Environment (CITEE), and supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
