Soho to Soweto

The project

Soho to Soweto is a series of five debates that aims to connect the British public with today's development issues - aid, trade, security, the environment, and democracy. Funded by the UK's Department for International Development (DFID), through their Development Awareness Fund (DAF), these are being organised by CUTS International. A typical panel will consist of a national media personality to chair, a frontbench politician, a high-ranking government official, a leading academic, and the director of a charity.

Interactivity

These debates are free to attend, and are advertised in local and national media. Audience members submit questions to the chair, either beforehand or during the course of the debate. They are equipped with information packs that include facts and stories on the issues. DVDs are made and distributed to Development Education Centres (DECs) around the UK.
